View Full Version : Tying together databases with Fellowship One?

Has anyone tried pulling off their Fellowship One databases for other uses?

Specifically, down the road we're looking at a forum for the membership, and I'd like to be able to link the user database to our existing database. I've two reasons for wanting to do this -

1. Make it as seamless as possible on their end (say, just enter their email, maybe enter a verification answer, and be good to go)

2. Verify that we're giving access to church members only, at least to start.

Has anyone given this a try yet? Any suggestions?
I was planning on going phpBB, unless there's a big reason to go vBulletin or the like?

Thanks!

I'd check out Simple Machines Forum (which was fairly easy to configure the time I used it) or bbPress (which is known for Standards Compliance) for forum software.

As for F1, I couldn't get into their Online Knowledge Base on their website. Looks like a link, but doesn't quack like a link.

Hrm - good place to start looking though, thank you.

Why those forums, out of curiosity?

Thanks!

I can't say much more than I did.

Simple Machines was easy to configure when I used it before. I used it on one project that didn't take off.

bbPress is by the people that make WordPress, a CMS known for its web standards compliance.

If the F1 database doesn't use some confusing proprietary security system, it's as simple as linking the forum system to the database, of course that means you need to park the F1 database on a web server. Alternatively you could export a copy f the database and import the copy as the default db for the forum system, although that would mean having to update two dbs for all changes.
