Maybe I am trying to put a camel through the eye of a needle here, but I am trying to submit our podcast to the iTunes store.
A couple nights ago, I tried an XSLT to add the proper iTunes tags to the RSS feed, but that timed out when submitting.
Tonight I tried writing PHP to pull the RSS with the iTunes tags. I am getting a cryptic Unknown Error 5002 error from iTunes.
The RSS feed is valid according to Feed Validator (http://www.feedvalidator.org), and I can open the podcast in iTunes.
Has anyone done this successfully or should I try getting a camel through the eye of a needle since that is easier?

Hi, Jack,
My experience with podcasting is that getting a camel through the eye of a needle is easier than figuring out podcasting.
Our podcasts come up on itunes when a person subscribes etc. What is the difference in that and setting the podcast up in the store? Do they actually sell them in the "store", or does store represent something else? Obviously, I have not checked it out. I am afraid I will be charged an entrance fee. ;)

I struggle with it too sometimes. Especially that Wordpress automatically puts in enclosure tags, but doesn't automatically update them if you change something.

A person can subscribe to a podcast using iTunes if they have the address (technically known as a URL). However, if your podcast is submitted to the store, then a person can search for it in the store. It's called a store because it sells music and videos, but your podcast appears there for free (there is no charge to get it from the iTunes store, kind of like those free CDs of Internet software in stores).
As a followup, I found this on Apple's site tonight:
There is currently an issue with the podcast submission process; it is not possible to submit podcasts for review.
When the problem has been fixed, this message will disappear and you should be able to submit podcasts via the usual process.
In the interim, help ensure that your podcast can be easily submitted by checking it for errors with Feed Validator:
http://www.feedvalidator.org
More information on podcast submission process can be found in the technical spec:

Jack,
I've got them to work in the past, if when the error gets fixed you still are having problems shoot me a message and I'll see if I can help.

Thanks, Kyle. Given that the feed validates, I think I will be fine once Apple gets its problems resolved.
