Making Firefox the default browser on the Macintosh probably is something you get to set when you first installed Firefox. (I don't remember.) Otherwise, from what I just read on the internet, you have to go into Safari's preferences and set the default browser there (to not be Safari, but rather, some other browser).
But if you didn't do either of the above, or don't care to, I found a freeware system preferences panel that allows you set the default browser on your Macintosh. It also has many other features. It's called RCDefaultApp and is available here:
