Hi,

Welcome to the forum!! Why are you here while you are in school? :D Yes, I have taught school before.

The definition of avatar is as follows:

>>>avatar
An image you select or create to represent yourself to the other party in a chat or instant messaging (IM) session. An avatar is a caricature, not a realistic photo and can be a simple image or a bizarre fantasy figure. Avatar is a Sanskrit word that means the incarnation of a god on earth, and this usage of the term came from the gaming and 3D chat worlds.>>>

It can be any kind of image you want which represents you. Sometimes I use an angel for myself. And I would use it on this forum if I could figure out how to get it here. I think Mr. Belfry is the avatar expert on here.

Mr. Belfry, how did you put you avatar there? I have wanted to use one too but couldn't figure out how to do it.

Carol

PS Check out Mr. Belfry. He has an avatar. In a very broad sense many icons and smileys can be called avatars as well.

Hi Carol

I can't remember how I got my avatar - I've tried to change it a few times and can't work out what I did. If you look at the first dark blue navigation bar thing there is a link called User CP - I think the setting is around there somewhere.

Hope that helps

Mr. Belfry, that was no help at all. :) I have been trying to figure out how to make an avatar from time to time since I came on this forum. However, I haven't figured it out yet. In fact, I tried to find my profile and couldn't find it either. Oh, I just thought how to find it.

And another thing is really weird. Up until about two months ago my sign-in would "stick" because I checked the button that asks if I want this computer to be remembered or whatever it says. Now, I have to sign-in each time.

David, is there a reason for this?

Be well all. I have had the flu and it hangs on and on and on and on....

I'm wondering how to get an avatar (what is it?). Cool site.Hi "angelbear,"

Look for the "User CP" (that is, Control Panel) link at the left end of the blue bar above the posts. Click on that, and click "Edit Avatar" under "Settings & Options". The bottom half of the settings area (to the right of the lefhand column and labeled "Custom Avatar") can be used to either point to a picture on the web already (to be your avatar), or to upload a file from your computer.

Members are welcome to add avatars to their posts, until and unless avatar usage gets abused by hackers. (There's always the potential...)

Sincerely,

"A few months ago" would correspond to a major upgrade I installed to the vBulletin software that powers this forum. Yeah, I've noticed the problem about which you speak (ever since upgrading), and it has bugged me, too.

I just reviewed all settings in the forum Admin Control Panel and found none that would fix this problem (of logins not "sticking"). The situation seems to have improved a bit for me lately, but it seems I should search the vBulletin users' forum to find some sort of solution.

Sincerely,

The login always sticks with me. I've never had a problem with it - i have xp sp2 installed and I generally use firefox if that helps you get to the route of the problem

:cool:Hello all. I'm studying for a bio lab exam (yukyukyuk). I now have an avatar from somewhere - Yahoo I think. Now I have to figure how to get back to it & transfer it. The flu's a drag, & yes it does have a tendency to drag on & on. My prayers are with you. Some web sites let you have avatars. You can pick one & transfer it to where you want to. I'm going to do a search for those kinds of websites & see if I can find me a wolf avatar. I'll let y'all (I is from the south) know about it when I find a site for avatars (free ones). I have Smileys.com on my toolbar. It's a little program full of animated smileys, animals & stuff. Smileys.com is part of MyFreeze though & they're not really that good to deal with I found out after I had downloaded smileys & other stuff to my computer. Something went wrong right afterwards & my hubby had to reboot the whole system. Then sometime later against my better judgement, I downloaded free clip art from MyFreeze. It downloaded OK but I found some weird things on my desk top. I deleted them. The Freeze people had sent the weird things to me along with the clip art. I'm not gonna use My Freeze for an avatar.
I had a wonderful fellowship this a.m. at church at my marriage class group. We had some good laughs too. That's a great way to start the week off.
Well, it's (past really) nightynight time for me. Check ya later. God bless!
