Hosting the church site on my own server, means I have total control over scripts, email boxes, databases etc. If there's a problem then I am not relying on a support guy answering my call immediately.

I can make the package suit my church.

Hi Ian,

What are you using to host your church's site? Linux/Apache (or similar combination), or Windows?

Sincerely,

Yes David,

I am using Linux/Apache with a cPanel. Lovely combination, and so easy to setup mySQL databases and crons.

I find the hardest part of this is actually getting things set up. At least here in the US, I find most ISPs don't do much to accomodate those who want to run their own server.

Besides, with any good webhost, they should be able to get to your problem in a few hours at most. I know mine usually gets back to me in a matter of minutes when I have questions or problems.
