Hello all. My name is Pete and I have been here at Great Church Websites for a couple of weeks now in anticipation of a major site redesign. Thanks to David for this invaluable resource and to all the 'regulars' for sharing your experiences.

I am in the process of putting together a volunteer web team at church which may turn in to a media ministry when it's all said and done. I've finally realized that I can't/won't keep up my site alone. I also believe that I SHOULDN'T do it alone to keep ideas from becoming one-sided.

I recently purchased Steve Krugs book on web usability, "Don't Make Me Think". I highly recommend it. Anyone else used this book?

That's all for now, back to lurking and researching.

God Bless,
Pete H.

Pete,

I?d like to welcome you to the group. This is a great place to get ideas. I too have read Steve Krug?s book, and recommend it as well.

Welcome, Pete,

I am glad you joined us. What is that book about? Is it good for a beginner? I actually agree that a person should not do a web site alone. But if nobody else is willing to help out, a person is stuck so to speak. I am that person. I believe if I would fall over dead, the web site would cease to exist. I hope I am wrong in this, but I don't think I am.

Have you ever though how sad it is that we have to make use of books titled
Don't Make Me Think? However, I know that is true to a certain extent. I just had people asking me to put the history of the church on our web site...that they would enjoy that. The church history is there. And it is listed under...what else?...church history. Such is life.

Glad you are here, and I am looking forward to your contributions.

Carol,

"Don't Make Me Think" is a web usability book. It is GREAT for beginners. I wish I had read it long ago. The title is derived from the way that most people use the web or anything else for that matter. It also includes some information about Section 508 Accessability, something dear to David Gillaspeys heart, I think.

I was the sole owner/contributor/financier of my church website for 6 years until I decided to move forward with my vision for a team. I recruited folks from our congregation and am still in the planning phase for a full-featured design/hosting solution that won't break the bank. I know may be some problems getting conscensus on a team but am hoping we wont waste a lot of time discussing color schemes. CONTENT IS KEY!

I'm continuing on my quest for knowledge. I know a little html, need to learn something about CSS, CMS, Flash and Javascript.

Thanks for the responses.
Pete
