I'm reworking our directions page and came up with a few ideas that some of you might be able to use.
Our new page (http://www.mtbethel.org/menu211/Directions) has three links on it.
One gives them text directions, written by us.
The next one shows an overview of the church property, with parking area highlighted in yellow (example (http://www.mtbethel.org/menu3130/Where-To-Park)). The parking areas are pretty obvious at the church, but I feel that the more info you can give a first-time visitor, the more comfortable they'll feel.
The third page shows where to enter the church after you've parked (example (http://www.mtbethel.org/menu3131/Where-To-Enter)), with kind of a picture-in-picture approach. Our church layout can be confusing to first-time visitors, and we're lacking adequate signage in some areas. This should help people get pointed in the right direction.
I have a few more things I'd like to add to that section (like the integrated Google Maps, as demonstrated here (http://www.greatchurchwebsites.org/forums/showthread.php?t=90)), but hopefully those ideas will help you a little bit.
