I dont know exactly where this post should go or if there already is one.

1.)What training does everybody have?

2.)Are there any e-ministry training programs that anybody would recommend?

3.)Has anybody attended or plan on attending a internet evengilism coalition (http://www.webevangelism.com/Brix?pageID=11914) conference?

4.)Is anybody heard about GodBlogCon (http://www.godblogcon.com/)? if so what do you think.

Hi,

My training is of the self-taught nature as is my ability to use the computer. Since I have had no experience with either computers or websites, I was a terrible teacher for myself. However, bit by bit I have learned.

I don't know of any evangelism training programs and haven't looked, but it sounds great. And I have never attended a conference either. I have been shut in my closet and can't get out. :D

I had never heard of www.godblogcon.com until I read your post. I checked it out briefly but was not overly enthusiastic with it at first glance...which, of course, is unfair...except that it needs to do something important or say something stimulating at first glance since that is the only time most people will look at it.

What kind of training have you had?

Bless us one and all,

Carol

2.)Are there any e-ministry training programs that anybody would recommend?Good questions. Thanks for posting them.

My brief answers to #2:

There are probably several ways that "e-ministry training programs" could be defined, but I'll list these, knowing in advance that I might be answering the wrong question. (I do that often on this forum!)

1) http://www.cybermissions.org/training/index.html ? 12 week online course in cybermissions.

2) http://ie-21stcentury.com/ ? home page of the Internet Evangelism for the 21st Century conference. The first annual conference was held back in April (2005). I mention it here because 19 workshops from this first conference are available on DVD for a low price from this home page. Heck of a deal, if you ask me.

3) http://bgc.gospelcom.net/iec/otoe/index.php ? website for online training for online evangelists. Actually, when I tested this link tonight, it was bad. However, I'm providing it here because the server may be the problem, not the link. I'll follow up on this.

4) http://www.mainstreetnet.com/cgi-bin/EventsList.cgi?cat=General ? Using the Internet in Ministry Workshops (various dates at cities around the country).

5) And finally, http://www.ginghamsburgglobal.org/conf2005/gc05dmc.php ? Ginghamsburg Church's "Digitally Mastered" conferences (yes, a strange name for cybermissions).

Carol,

I have mostly taught myself web programming but I'm currently going for a computer science degree, so I have been taught the programming languages by the professional.

David,
Thanks. I knew of a couple of those and will have to check out the others when I get a chance.

By the way what is your training ?

By the way what is your training ?Self-taught, like many people. (Books, mostly.)

I don't actually make a living designing websites. I draw no salary from running Great Church Websites either, though I've about half way recouped my expenses to date by selling memberships to my website. (These memberships are not the same as forum memberships, which are free.)

(Great Church Websites, which hosts this forum, is not a web design company ? unlike, for example, the company that owns www.greatchurchwebsites.COM. My not-for-profit organization is an educational ministry.)

I have, however, applied to many churches, without success, for a Communications Director type of job, which typically involves oversight of the church website, among other things. Since I hold a master's degree in photojournalism, such a job would be ideal for me, I'd like to think. But I'm the only one so far who thinks so.

Don't really want to make a living actually creating websites, anyway. Too many people can do that better than I can.

My focus now is on an online master's degree in divinity program (already started), and an online master's degree in instructional design (how to train people, how to prepare course materials) program (starts in three weeks).

I also recently checked out the Bachelor of Fine Arts in digital media production (print graphics + video) program offered by a local art college. It's perfect for me.

Thus I stay busy. Which is why I don't post as much as I used to in this forum. (I used to try to ensure all posts got answered eventually, but that was too time-consuming.)

Sincerely,
