Here's some info about about me and my church and some stats and experience with my church's website.
Name/Age/Location:
- Nick Turrietta/24/San Diego
Job Position - Description:
- Full Time Web Developer/Webmaster - For the past two years, I've been responsible for planning, building, and maintaining the features and content on our church website. (Yes, I'm very blessed to work at a large church that loves God and realizes the power of the Internet)
Website Info:
- The Rock Church - San Diego, CA :: www.therocksandiego.org
Statistics:
- Average Daily Number of Pages/Visits for October 2004: 4613/1065
- More at http://www.therocksandiego.org/statistics/webstat/
Positive Marketing:
- Website listed on all print media (essential)
- Website often promoted from the pulpit (it has become part of our culture)
- Free online classifieds keep people coming back (looking for Christian roommates mostly)
- Over one year, 3,500 Google Adwords clicks with a CTR of 2.6% at an average CPC of 8 cents.
Essentials:
- Classifieds, Small Groups, Announcements, Event Calendar, Ministries, Sunday Messages
Church Size:
- About 5,500 people each Sunday (five Sunday services)
Demographics:
- A young church, mostly college aged; currently the church is on a large college campus
IT Staff:
- 1 Webmaster (myself), 1 IT Director, 1 Graphic Designer, 1 Database Developer, and 1 Desktop Support Person, out of a total staff of about 45 people.
Website Volunteers:
- The Photo Ministry takes pictures of church events and uploads them to the website
- The Writer's Ministry writes weekly stories that get added to the website
Equipment:
- Servers (2 web, 1 streaming media, 1 file, and 1 test) hosted in house
- Connections (2 T1 lines: 1 for the web/media, 1 for in-office staff use)
Future Plans:
- Integrated church database, so users can join ministries and small groups on their own
- MyRock section, similar to MyYahoo, that works with the database to personalize what the user sees
- Solid monthly HTML email newsletter like one of those from www.sitepoint.com/newsletter
- Powerful search engine: http://www.therocksandiego.org/home?theme=rock4
- Much better ministries section, allowing ministry leaders to change/edit content
Ok, there's lot more, but that's good for now. Feel free to ask any questions. I'm happy to help.
