How would you (have you) go about seeking a developer for your website?

If you're a developer how do people find you?

Once you've located someone or been located, what types of question do you ask or get asked?

If I was looking for a developer, I think I would start in my local area to find a developer. I don't know if I would try a "Rent a Coder" web site to find a developer. I would rather have a face to face with a developer when working on a project.

I do develop web sites and build MS Access databases. I live in a small town, so word of mouth is the more popular way I find new jobs. I also do get referrals from other businesses.

When I talk with potential clients, I listen to what they have to say. I get ideas from them and make suggestions all the while writing down what they are telling me. I also ask them for example sites that they like, so I can get a feel for their thoughts. I usually have a list of questions, related to their business, written down that I will ask the potential client during our meeting.

I also show the potential client examples of my work. Before we start on a site or database, I have an outline of all the work that I will accomplish for their project.

Even with all of that, there will be changes during the developing process. That's all part of being a developer.

BTW The Gates of Praise Bookshop is very nice. Great job.
