We are actually at a pretty good place right now with interest in our site. We recently changed domain names and upgraded the hosting package we had which added some cool features. The addition of those features plus the addition of streaming audio/video capabilities has our site getting decent visitation.

Currently working a website brochure to highlight some of our features, and serve as an invitiation to help out with the site as well. I'm hoping that adding some people who will be my content writers and photographers I'll be able to make the site more inviting and continually updating.

I'm curious to how those of you who have web teams assembled break down the job duties? Is the web team responsible for everything or do various other church teams provide some of your content? Unfortunetly (in my web world) my current position has me responsible for all communications both print and electronic.

Wbcderek,

That's great! Keep us updated on how your efforts are working...

Our umbrella team is the Marketing and Communications team, which is overseen by two staff people. In that there are two groups - the web team and the design group, which does everything else the web team doesn't do (though half the web team is also in the design group... go figure).

Most of our content is submitted to us by various ministries and other people, then we put it together for them. One avenue we are considering is creating a "web media pack" for the various ministries to download. It will consist of a template of sorts that fits the design specifications of the site. They fill it out with whatever they need to put on it, then send it back to us for final review. We also have one person on the team dedicated to gathering and editing content from the outside sources, and three people who's job it is to put the content on the site. Two people are dedicated to programming more than the other things, and one guy does the majority of the design.

The design team does its own thing, but is usually responsible for some of the paper communications and *some* of the other digital media we use.

Consider this - there's no one right way to do it, though I do understand how difficult it is to be stretched in a million different directions. It would be great if you could find some other people to help distribute the work load.

I would expect nothing different, out of curiousity how many do you have on staff at your church? Are the two teams staff or volunteer?

I've wanted to do something along those lines, but I'd have to get people to submit full articles first :)

What are considered outside sources?

The most important factor whether solo or team that you seem to have under control is organization. I think as we all work together if nothing else if we can assist each other in various ways that we are keeping content, sites, and people organized and effectively and efficiently ministering we will all gain much.

I would expect nothing different, out of curiousity how many do you have on staff at your church? Are the two teams staff or volunteer? We have about a dozen "staff" people, split between several full-timers, a few interns, and a few who give freely of their time but have significant leadership positions. The two teams I referred to (web and design) are all volunteer, with the exception of the two staff people. A lot of the day-to-day running are managed by us - the volunteers, whereas the overall direction comes from the staff.

I've wanted to do something along those lines, but I'd have to get people to submit full articles first :) I'll keep you all updated on how we decide to do this. At the moment it has been working fine gathering the content and putting it in ourselves. Once we get our CMS written and implemented, the update process should be a LOT easier - we'd only have to review the actual content itself and not worry about maintaining code or design aspects.

What are considered outside sources?By outside, I really meant from other people in the church - outside our team.
