I'm currently redesigning my church site and wanted to include directions from the homepage. After much thinking, even more trying stuff and failing, I managed to make a moving flash map using swish. You can see it at http://www.lighthousecc.co.uk/test/
It is essentially a gimmick masquerading as something useful. Let me know what you think?

wow, I actually really like that, the gimmick affect is perfect as the movement brings attention to it. I like the look of the redesign, everything easily accessible and read.

Hi mrbelfry,
I finally got around to checking out your map. I concur with Derek. It's very nice. And it makes me laugh, so it adds fun (intentionally or unintentionally) to the site.
You obviously put a lot of work into it. Kudos!

lol - thanks for the kind words. I'm not sure laughter would have been my chosen response though! Thinking about it it is kind of goofy. If I was a proper designer it might have come out cool! I can definately live with fun though.
Thanks

I only see one problem with the map. How is the user going to download or print such information if the file is stuck in flash/swish? maybe add some sort of click here to display in text format button. but other than that it was an interesting approach.

How is the user going to download or print such information....(ctcdmb's point is not that the Flash-based driving directions can't be printed at all ? they can ? but that it's like a movie that occurs over a period of time. It's like asking the question, how would you print a Quicktime movie?)
Good observation. Guess a second link, to a printable MapQuest or Google map, would be helpful, too.

I like it - the problem I forsee (besides the printing of it) is that I can't see the whole map at once.
