Check out the Flash animation on this home page — it's pretty cool.
This home page is a good example of how web designers are getting creative with backgrounds, while avoiding the garish backgrounds of the early years of the World Wide Web. The background here is a wall, perhaps a rock wall (befitting the church name), but the tones are very low key, that is, very dark. (Background is not visible in screenshot.)
The background of a dark wall goes away on inside pages, and is replaced with a plain light gray background. (That was probably a wise decision.) The banner from the home page is seen on inside pages, however. The banner's presence on inside pages serves to tie the designs of inside pages to the overall look of the site. But inside pages get some interesting design flourishes not seen on the home page, so the entire site is worth checking out.
