Articles wanted for Church Webmaster Magazine
My goal for year 2011 is to launch an online magazine for church and parish webmasters. Immediately, you'll think I mean a magazine about web standards, CSS, HTML, PHP/.NET, backend databases, e-commerce, etc.
That's not what I have in mind at all. The reason is simple: the internet already abounds with resources on these subjects.
Instead, my vision for Church Webmaster Magazine is that it will be comprised of:
- Profiles of (that is, articles by or about) individuals who are managers or ministry leaders of successful church or parish web ministries (or internet ministries, if you prefer).
- Profiles of the ministries themselves (compared to above, less focused on a particular individual).
- Articles providing a Biblical or theological basis for the use of the internet for ministry.
- Articles that in general help churches and parishes to launch, maintain, or improve their web or internet ministry (including the use of social media).
- Profiles of individuals who run web design companies focused on the church market.
- Profiles of such companies themselves (compared to above, less focused on a particular individual).
- Articles that help churches and parishes make successful use of outside design companies to create a website. (Or vice versa: articles that help web design companies that already or want to break into the church market to know how to effectively work with churches and/or parishes.)
- Profiles of individuals who are run companies that create and market branded web Content Management Systems. (Current or past advertisers on this website get first priority.)
- Profiles of such companies themselves and their product(s) (compared to above, less focused on a particular individual). (See previous note.)
- Articles that help churches and parishes choose or make successful use of branded web Content Management Systems.
- Suggest an idea for an article!
- Suggest an idea for a recurring column!
- What's the frequency of the magazine? Monthly, bi-monthly, weekly — it just depends on the availability of articles and the readership stats we achieve.
- I'm not looking for blog entries or tweets. I want articles — 800 words to 3,000 words in length.
- How much will writers get paid? Nothing, initially — other than a byline. Sorry. I'm just emerging from an expense unwanted divorce. I hope by mid 2011 to be able to pay 10 cents a word for columns and articles, though that's far from living wages.
- What are the publication rights? First time rights. After six months, you're free to sell your article to another (non competing) online or print magazine.
- Can you write about your own church or ministry? Certainly.
- Can you write about your own company (web design company or branded web CMS solution provider)? Certainly — but let's be upfront with readers about your relationship with the company.
- What are my qualifications to start this magazine? Master's degree in journalism. Years of experience as a publications editor and copy editor. Founding managing editor and designer of Worship Leader magazine (1991-94, Nashville). Operator of this website since April 2004.
- Can you advertise in the magazine? Certainly — ask me about it.
The church web market consists in part of churches that design and maintain their own websites. That's what the above focuses on. Other churches hire external web design companies to create and sometimes maintain the church's website. Thus, similar to above, I'm looking for articles on:
The church web market also consists of churches and parishes that already own or plan to purchase branded web Content Management Systems. Thus, similar to above, I'm looking for articles on:
