Content management systems for church websites

Let's face it — not every church has the money, time, talent, or other resources to field a great-looking website. The good news is, a number of companies have come to the rescue by offering web Content Management Systems (CMS) with pre-designed templates, or "looks," that make it easy for churches to develop and — just as importantly, maintain — a great-looking website. (Some CMS vendors offer custom designs, too.)

(Web services providers — that is, companies offering website design; web hosting; Flash programming; streaming media services; branding; and similar graphic design, programming and marketing services — are listed separately on this newly added page.)

For information about open-source (free) content management systems, go to opensourceCMS.com, then click where shown on the external site: Screenshot showing where to click on exterior website to read about open-source CMS solutions.

1 administerweb   This CMS enables complete customization of a church website's look and functionality. It automatically creates lists of events and blog/news items for your home page and each ministry's page, allows for ministry leaders to contribute their own content, and gives your content manager control over editing, approving, and scheduling content for public view. Future developments include membership/ministry directory tools and church recording/analysis tools.
2 Advanced Ministry 2.0   What makes AdvancedMinistry 2.0 different? AdvancedMinistry 2.0 is more than just a web solution. It's an experience. From a web perspective, it handles everything that you would expect out of a content management solution: the ability to create your own pages, take donations, provide sermon downloads, send newsletters, and so on. But the heart of AdvancedMinistry lies in its ability to keep all of your branding consistent throughout your website, print material, etc. To that end, we offer downloadable print campaigns to go along with many of our website templates. For example, let's say that Christmas was approaching and you wanted to produce a "Christmas campaign" for your church. With the click of a button, you could change your entire website over to a Christmas theme and download corresponding PowerPoint templates and bulletin shells to go with it!
3 Ascribe   This CMS integrates both member and website management into a single, powerful web-based solution. With Ascribe you can: empower each ministry with online tools to manage information, assign tasks, print labels, send email and build community. Re-brand Ascribe using your church logo. Distribute tax-deductible statements via the web by creating a private members area on your website. Publish web pages, calendars, photos, blogs and custom forms. Web hosting and unlimited email accounts are included.
4 Atlantic Webfitters   Our portal software easily and quickly adapts to create church internet websites, departmental intranets, information portals, and storefront delivery systems without specialized computer skills. The portal software allows for downloadable sermon audio files, specific departmental editing capabilities for many different ministries, event scheduling, online donations, forums, members-only area, online bookstore, blog, announcements, wiki, secure login, images, documents, and much more. Software, hosting, emails, and support for one low monthly fee.
5 Caravel   This CMS is different from others in that it is designed to meet both the needs of the individual churches as well as large networks of churches in the same denomination (by integrating data from the denominational headquarters into church websites). All updates are done using a web-based interface; there is no software to download to individual computers.
